About the book
This book is a celebration of that transformation and honors those who create life, the doulas who guide them through the process, and the caregivers who step-in to support during challenging moments. Throughout this book, you will peer into the lives of 6 mothers and read stories of birth, choice, resilience, cycle-breaking, and most importantly, of joy. As the stories unfold, these women will show you exactly who they were Born to Be.

Changing the Narrative
Black women in America face extraordinary challenges during the early stages of motherhood, grappling with medical discrimination, inadequate care, and a significantly higher risk of infant mortality. The reality is stark: Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes, and Black infants are twice as likely not to reach their first birthday.
Yet, we know that with the right care, support, and of course, a village there are better outcomes and so much joy. Birthing Beautiful Communities is committed to transforming the birthing experience for Black mothers in Northeast Ohio and beyond.
We’re here to uplift our village no matter where they are on their journey, and provide a safe place to heal with access to the tools they need to feel heard, empowered and loved.
