• Completed Perinatal Support Professional training
  • Completion of Grief Recovery courses (will be provided through BBC)
  • Completion of an American Heart Association approved infant and adult CPR course

The Perinatal Support Specialist will be a detailed, mostly self-directed and disciplined team member with a passion for birth equity, improving birth outcomes and supporting mothers during all perinatal stages. The purpose of this position is to ensure positive birth outcomes in the Akron and Cleveland community identified hotspots. This roles requires training with little to absences, some travel, and organization to insure time management and modeling for clients.

A secondary function is to insure the program can run efficiently and has the support of all Perinatal Support Person. PSP will be asked to understand office function and can carry out some day to day administrative activities effectively including data reporting and client encounter case notes required to sustain the organization.

This person will work with BBC administrative team to ensure successful operations of all Birthing Beautiful Communities functions. Some volunteering is expected to push the program forward.

This is a part time contract position, which means you are able to keep any other fulltime and part time employment you have. This also means you are able to make decisions around how and when you work as long as the work is completed within the contract guidelines agreed upon. Since the Perinatal Support Specialist is a part time contractor position, this position will not replace fulltime employment. PSP Certification is REQUIRED before contract.

What we do at BBC is unique to our organization and includes specialized training. We are not able to verify that outside doula training adequately aligns with our mission. Anyone who is certified as a doula can still apply and will still go through an abbreviated BBC PSP training session, but the cost is $300.00.

 

Absolutely! We want every contractor to be an entrepreneur and understand how to use birth work to build their own business in addition to working with our clients.

Beginning in 2025, the cost of training is $1,100. Upon acceptance into the training class, a $100 deposit holds your seat, $500 is due on the first day of class, and the remaining $500 balance is due on the last day of class.

All certification is done in-house by Birthing Beautiful Communities. Starting in 2025, the cost for training and certification is $1100.00 with intent to provide clients and contract with those who complete certification. An interview is required before certification can begin.

A PSD is a highly trained and specialized doula who is able to support mother and families from 10 weeks pregnant through 1 year postpartum. What our PSD do is above and beyond the normal scope of traditional doula work.

The Perinatal Support Doula is a certified birth professional. This contractor is highly trained and skilled in various areas, including labor support, stress management, emotional support, breastfeeding, contraception education, smoking cessation as well as case management, peer to peer interaction and collectivism.

Get doula training through BBC and become a Perinatal Support Doula (PSD) on our team! This position is a part time contractor position. This position will not replace fulltime employment. PSD Certification is REQUIRED before hiring. PSD Certification is different from basic doula training. Certification is $800.00 and is available to all applicants we intend to hire (Payment plans available).

*This training is only available for women in the community with household incomes of $70,000 or less who are not employed by health institutions or partner organizations (ie. Case, UH, Neighborhood Connections, Famicos, The Cleveland Clinic).
